4 Tips to Help you Through the Stay-at-Home Order

While home is typically a place of solitude for many, major disruptions to our everyday lives, along with stay-at-home measures related to the Covid19 virus have many of us feeling understandably a little stir crazy. As we are disconnected from our normal lives, and in some cases from our loved ones, it’s important to consider the mental health and well-being for you and for your family. Here are a few tips to help you through this difficult time:

Keep a Routine

Routines provide structure, and establishing or maintaining a routine is extremely important during a chaotic environment, especially for children and those suffering with anxiety. Having a routine will help to maintain healthier habits, provide a sense of movement throughout the day, and help make your day a little closer to “normal”.

Surround yourself with things that bring you joy

As we learned through Marie Kondo’s KonMari method – it’s important to surround yourself with things that bring you joy. Identify items that make you happy, and put it where you frequent most. Maybe it’s your wedding photo, a picture from your favorite artist, a stuffed animal or favorite blanket – find something that makes you smile and keep it near.

Keep Contact

While you should be respecting the stay-at-home order and social distancing, this does not mean social isolation. Remember to take time to call and talk to call a family member or friend.

Try to relax

Given the health implications, impact on finances and the household, stress levels are at an all-time high. It’s easier than it sounds for sure, but as much as possible try to relax as stress can have a negative impact on your immune system. Some techniques that might be helpful for you: meditation, deep breathing techniques, yoga, exercise, walking around the block, playing with a pet, praying, calling or video chatting a friend or family member, taking a warm bath.
